Your Atlanta

I am a queer, transmasc (he/they), working professional living in Atlanta, GA in the US.
I have a decade of experience in search engine optimization (SEO) including navigating the current AI craze.
I have been everything: writer, editor, strategist, content manager, social media manager, technical SEO.
I have worked with: Everyone from small independent publishers to the VP of communications for a 5000+ person company.
To help other oppressed folks spread their information, products, or services by optimizing their websites for accessibility, user experience, and both traditional and AI search.
Why did I use the word oppressed? Because the knowledge that we are living under Empire directly affects all of my decisions, including my business practices and boundaries, and directly informs my understanding of the digital world. And I want to save time by working with other people who understand that.
My preferred way of working is on retainer for a handful of publishers/business owners.
I know this can be inaccessible for people, so if you are more interested in piecemeal work (ex. a site audit, backlink strategy, content strategy, etc.), please reach out and ask and we might be able to work something out depending on my current capacity.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is the practice of doing things to a website and its content (copy, images, code etc.) that help it show up when people search for certain things on Google (and other search engines, but mostly Google) and now, the answers that folks get when they type questions into AI chat boxes.
I think so haha. It’s no secret that the enshittification of the internet and its content is at an all time high. While it is true that things like AI slop, tech monopolies, and the general ways that capitalism degrades quality have all combined to make the internet an overwhelming, frustrating, and existentially upsetting place to be, SEO still matters, or at least it will for a bit longer.
Because SEO that is ethical and sustainable is functionally about making your site better: Creating high-quality content that gives folks information they want. Making sure your site is able to be read by and communicated to disabled folks via screen readers and other accessibility aids. Making your site easy to navigate and the pages quick to load so people can find what they want easily.
I have a lot of big opinions about the recent AI buzz. I use what people currently think of as AI rarely. I don’t use Chat GPT, or Google AI mode, or anything to write my words. One of my jobs uses an enterprise AI model and I use it occasionally at their request.
However, it has affected my industry significantly, so I know a lot about how it works and how a site and its content is or is not likely to get picked up in it.
No, I don’t think so. At least not yet. This is one of the loudest questions in my industry right now and the general consensus is no. So far, learning language models (LLMs – “AI”) are being programmed to use similar metrics as traditional SEO to prioritize content.
There are also, significant differences between AI optimization and traditional SEO. But it is a mistake to deprioritize traditional SEO in favor of only optimizing for AI.
